The 85 yard shot 2017

Big day of climbing on this day as we saw elk and some bulls high up on the mountain the day before. As we hike and climb about 1,500 feet with any luck then all of a sudden we spotted two cows bedded in the open on top of this mountain. They were about 150 away from us and we knew there had to be more there. We tried hard to keep looking for more elk without being spotted but we couldn’t find any more. So we back off and took a break to think about our strategy and then a bugle came from where the cows were bedded. Casey the guide went to check where the bull was and noticed him bedded under a tree about 500 yards away. Now we knew he was but had no way to get to him with bad terrain or the other cows spotting us. So we stayed where we were and ate some lunch and enjoyed a awesome vista. We finally just thought we would wait for the bull to get up in the evening but we had to wait 4 hours for that to happen. About 45 minutes into our wait the wind started to really pick up and we heard the bull start to bugle again. So Casey went to check on the bull and noticed he had moved closer to us. He finally moved into a little draw that was out of the wind. We all tried to get in position to get a shot while the bull was just over a 100 yards away. The bull was eating and chasing some cows and worked his way as close as 85 yards and Brian saw his opportunity. Brian made a fantastic shot at a bull. He didn’t run 20 yards before collapsing.

Bannack Days and Horseback Rides

IMG_5118IMG_5112IMG_5099This little guy is Bannack and he got to ride “the manliest horse we have!”

IMG_5081IMG_5073 This adorable momma waited almost an hour to take a ride with her little girl but even after the long wait they said they had a great time! Thank to everyone who beared with us through the long wait, we appreciate you and your patience!

IMG_5093 The horses were packed up and getting unsaddled and this sweet little one just wanted to touch a horse, Casey couldn’t let her miss an opportunity to ride though; after a few minutes she was brave enough to try sitting on Maybe the horse bareback! She did a great job and her grandma said, “she will never forget this!”

IMG_5060This was out view for most of the day; a string of horses going down the trail.

IMG_5128Levi finishing up the day with one last ride.

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us at Bannack Days and we hope to see you next year!

Welcome to the Lodge

We have had lots of requests to see where our hunts and horseback rides are based from! This old beauty is the lodge that Mel Montgomery grew up in Lakeview and later had brought a half mile up the hill where she now sits in all her glory. We have been blessed with an amazing view of the Red Rock Lakes .  There isn’t much we enjoy more than sitting on the porch together and relaxing and as you can see Guss the dog really enjoys the view as well.

Great Hunt Today

We were lucky enough to have Leonard and Jim from Northern California join us during the 4th week of our rifle hunt season. While they both had to return home for a family emergency on only the second day of their seven day hunt.  Our guides worked hard to make sure Jim was able to return home with a 5×5 bull. Then while on the way to pack Jim’s bull out Leonard was able to shoot this monster 31″ buck!
