What to Expect

Weather:

October and November weather can be brutal at times. Temperatures can range from as high as 60 degrees to as low as -30 degrees. Preparing for that can be stressful. Its always good to prepare for the -30 degrees and if you need to take off some layer if the weather is warmer.

Riding Horses:

If you don’t know how to ride a horse or haven’t been on one since you were a kid that’s no problem with us. Our horses get first time riders all summer long and know how to take care of you. If you feel like you want to take riding lessons prior to the hunt, that is okay also. It will definitely make you feel more comfortable because during your hunting week you will be riding out of came in the dark and its very hard to see. Trusting your guide and horses will be a big benefit.

Hunting Style:

Spotting and stalking is our most preferred method of hunting. Let your eyes do the walking more than your legs. Also, lots of hiking or horseback riding from ridge to ridge while glassing is a great benefit. Some places only require to watch a meadow in the evening and wait for elk to feed out just before dark.

Whats included:

Transportation to and from the airport is included. Lodging in a backcountry wall tent with cots and mattresses for you to sleep on. Carpet will be in your tent for comfort. A guide, horse, and food is also included. Once you shoot your elk and its on the ground you, its your guides job to cut the animal up to be ready for horse transportation. Once the elk is ready for transport we will pack it out and get it to a freezer or butcher asap.

Rules:

Safety is the upmost importance here. Firearms should always be unloaded unless you are physically on the ground hunting. When your about to get on your horse make sure to unload your rifle before putting it in the scabbard. Once you get off the horse and pull the rifle out from the scabbard you can then chamber a round. If you do not follow these rules, you will become unsafe for everyone around you and will be sent home. Drinking alcohol is allowed but only at the end of you hunting day. No drinking before you are about to hunt. Please drink responsibly. If you drink to the point of being a hazard or dangerous you will be sent home.
