What to Expect

Weather:

September can be a very enjoyable month with average temperatures ranging from 60-70 degrees. Rain is also a strong possibility that can last a couple days so make sure you have rain gear that is quiet. It can snow but its not that common. It is good to be prepared for snow as a  precaution. Temperatures can dip as cold as 10 degrees at times.

Riding Horses:

If you don’t know how to ride a horse or haven’t been on one since you were a kid that’s no problem with us. Our horses get firs time riders all summer long and know how to take care of you. If you feel like you want to take riding lessons prior to the hunt, that is okay also. It will definitely make you feel more comfortable because during your hunting week you will be riding out of came in the dark and its very hard to see. Trusting your guide and horses will be a big benefit.

Hunting Style:

During the rut, calling for bulls is the best way together a shot. I mainly use a bugle to locate bulls far off and then use a cow call to close the distance. If you haven’t been in this situation before, I like to set the hunter up ahead of me by 50-100 yards and let them know what direction I think the bull will come from. When I’m back behind the hunter I will call and try to get the bull to come in for a shot. If you are in the this situation and the bull is coming in I want you to make the bull stop at your best shooting angle. Wallows are a good mid-day hunting style when its warm out and the elk are bedded. Sometimes cows or bulls will get up mid-day and roll in a wallow.

Whats included:

Transportation to and from the airport is included. Lodging in a backcountry wall tent with cots and mattresses for you to sleep on. Carpet will be in your tent for comfort. A guide, horse, and food is also included. Once you shoot your elk and its on the ground you, its your guides job to cut the animal up to be ready for horse transportation.
