Bannack Days and Horseback Rides

IMG_5118IMG_5112IMG_5099This little guy is Bannack and he got to ride “the manliest horse we have!”

IMG_5081IMG_5073 This adorable momma waited almost an hour to take a ride with her little girl but even after the long wait they said they had a great time! Thank to everyone who beared with us through the long wait, we appreciate you and your patience!

IMG_5093 The horses were packed up and getting unsaddled and this sweet little one just wanted to touch a horse, Casey couldn’t let her miss an opportunity to ride though; after a few minutes she was brave enough to try sitting on Maybe the horse bareback! She did a great job and her grandma said, “she will never forget this!”

IMG_5060This was out view for most of the day; a string of horses going down the trail.

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us at Bannack Days and we hope to see you next year!

First Ride!

summer3This little girl is Megan and she is 9 years old. When we first saddled up this morning, she was so scared she was sobbing. I told her that she would be fine and that she could ride right next to me and I would lead her horse for her. She was still scared but she wiped her tears and said “OK”. (Consequently, since she was in the front with me, she got to see some wildlife that no one else did.) After a few ups and downs on steep hills, I pulled her aside and told her that I was just in the way by leading her horse and that she didn’t need me. So she hesitantly took control, and within a couple hours, she was putting that horse wherever she wanted to go! When we finished our ride and I took the parting shots, I handed her my hat for a photo because she had shown all the other gals what it really meant to “Cowboy Up”.

Inside a bears den!

These two lucky ladies were the winners of a half day ride auction won during an event with The Center for Earth Conservancy. As you can see in the picture Shambow Creek was flowing and everyone enjoyed a drink of the cold water. During the trip Casey came across an empty bears den and everyone took a turn crawling inside! Luckily the bear didn’t return while they were inside his home and everyone made it back to the lodge safe and sound.

Fun Fishing

After deciding to try taking a shortcut to Blair Lake on a day ride up to Hell Roaring Creek the boys found themselves bushwhacking their way into the lake. Luckily the only causality was Adam getting hit with a tree branch.  All their hard work was well worth it though as they caught twelve fish between the four of them! At the end of their trip a huge bull moose ran out into the lake for a swim.  Maybe he wanted to check out the fishing as well!

Changing Camps

Today was day three of a five day pack trip with a fun group of people from all over! We had guests from Mexico City, New York, as well as a few from our own Montana. Today was the day we packed up and headed out of O’Dell camp and headed over to Shambow camp. During the transfer we rode through skyline and made it all the way to top of Baldy Mountain. We made it to camp just in time though, as we got quite the lightening show as we dropped down into Shambow.
